The Monroe Bridge to Bear Swamp stretch of Deerfield River in Massachusetts is 3 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Massachusetts and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.
This is a short paddling stretch so no need to bring snacks. The starting location is a short drive from Bennington, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short
distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Monroe Bridge to Bear Swamp stretch is just one of them. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of spots for that. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more.

in the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 20's, and overnight lows through the wintertime for Deerfield River tend to be in the 10's. Deerfield River gets a typical amount of yearly rainfall; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain while February is regularly the driest month. Don't leave Deerfield River without first going for a hike along the Dunbar Brook Trail.
