There is a portage around the #2 dam which is about a mile or so below the Wilcox Hollow put in. The portage includes an 800 foot long carry and a scramble down a steep, rocky slope. Says Brewbeer
If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. The wonderful Massachusetts scenery and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. This stretch of Deerfield River in Franklin County is 7 miles long
and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. The put-in is not too far from Springfield, as you can see on the road map further
down. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Lodging is available near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Wilcox Hollow to Stillwater Bridge stretch is just one of them. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near.
