The wonderful Massachusetts scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch of Fall River in Berkshire County is 0.9 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class V section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Massachusetts is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. Fall River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Otis Reservoir to Farmington River stretch is the only one. This
is a very short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. The put-in is not too far from Pittsfield, as you can see on the road map further down. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. There are campgrounds
quite near the river where you can camp. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots.

temperatures at Fall River through the summer are in the 80's with nighttime lows in the 50's. All through the winter this place gets highs in the 30's with temperatures at Fall River dipping down into the 10's throughout winter nights. All the water falling down from the sky makes Fall River a wet location; most of the rain falls during August while January is usually the driest month.
