If you're coming from Pittsfield it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The wonderful Massachusetts scenery and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The US Route 7 to Hoosic River stretch of Green River in Massachusetts is 8.15 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class
II-III section of whitewater. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. There are no other sections to paddle along Green River than the US Route 7 to Hoosic River section. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of
good rivers. The average Massachusetts whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Briefly about the general area: You'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Mount Greylock Ski Club if you're here, and Westlawn Cemetery is relatively close.
Going for a hike on the Deer Hill Trail is always a wonderful adventure, and close by you stumble on the Hopper Trail which is a good hiking trail. Summertime brings highs in the 70's to Green River while overnight lows are commonly in the 50's. The wintertime brings highs
down to the 20's, and after the sun is down all through the winter temperatures at Green River fall into the 10's. From a precipitation point of view Green River is a relatively common location; throughout August this area sees the most rain, and February meanwhile is the driest month. This is a really good river.
