The put-in is not too far from Springfield, as you can see on the road map further down. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Massachusetts are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The wonderful Franklin County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. The West Leyden to covered bridge stretch of Green River in Franklin County is 5.6 miles long and
it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting some good exercise and just
being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. The campgrounds here at Green River are pretty good. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the West Leyden to covered bridge section is one of them.

in the 20's; night lows at Green River through the winter frequently descend into the 0's. Green River is a wet location that gets a large amount of rainfall; the wettest month of the year is usually November, that's the one that rains the most; February on the other hand is the driest. Go for a hike on the Mount Olga Trail.
