The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Torrington, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Hubbard River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the W Hartland     Road to Route 20 section is the only one. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The scenic beauty of Hampden County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. High temperatures all through the wintertime are normally in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Hubbard River.   Hubbard River is a reasonably wet place mostly with a great deal of rain; August is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest month of the year is January.
