The natural beauty of Hampden County and the water flowing gracefully down Hubbard River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good rivers for that around here. The W Hartland Road to Route 20 stretch
of Hubbard River is 2.65 miles long and it is classified as a class V section by American Whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is a
bit of a short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. There's camping available near Hubbard River. This is the only paddling section along Hubbard River.
Briefly about the general area: Some good nature is available in Granville State Forest. Hubbard River is a wet place that gets much precipitation; August is when you get the most rain here; January
is when it's the driest. High temperatures at Hubbard River during the summer months are in the 80's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. High temperatures all through the winter are normally in the 30's; after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at Hubbard River dip into the 10's.
