Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so better not forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The W Hartland Road to Route 20 stretch is the only paddling stretch along Hubbard River. Whether you're     whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The scenic beauty of Hampden County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you're coming from Torrington it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. Briefly about the general area: Hubbard River gets a great deal of water; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain, and January meanwhile is the driest month. At Hubbard River through the   summertime highs are in the 80's with overnight lows in the 50's. Daytime highs all through the wintertime are in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Hubbard River. The trees of Granville State Forest are a fine source of shade on hot summer days.
