Massachusetts whitewater - Little River, Hampden County Hampden county, Dam below Cobble Mountain Reservoir to Northwest Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III-IV     3.2 miles   This stretch of Little River in Hampden County is 3.2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. The scenic beauty of Hampden County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here     do keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. There are no other sections to paddle along Little River than the Dam below Cobble Mountain Reservoir to Northwest Road section. This stretch is short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. The put-in location is a short drive from Springfield, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. Briefly about the general area: Have a great hiking adventure along the County Road Trail. During the warm days of summer, highs regularly are in the 80's at Little River. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 50's. Highs throughout the wintertime are ordinarily in the 30's,   and nighttime lows at Little River through the winter usually dip into the 0's. A lot of rainfall falls at Little River; August is the month that gets the most rain; January is the month with the least moisture. The Gorge is close to Little River and is absolutely a splendid location to stop at, and since you're here you can take a hike along the Link Trail.
