The wonderful Massachusetts scenery and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. If you're coming from Springfield it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are less demanding. This is a pretty short section so better bring some good walking shoes. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. This stretch of Little River in Hampden County is 3.2 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking,
either way this area has a large number of paddling places. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly about the general area: All the water falling down from the sky makes Little River a wet site; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain; January is when it's the driest. Nearby The Gorge is a great location to go if you're at Little River; do take a hike on the Link Trail. At Little River through the long
summer days highs are in the 80's; the nighttime is slightly chillier of course, regularly in the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's, and throughout the dark hours in the wintertime at Little River temperatures descend to the 0's. Why not take a refreshing hike along the County Road Trail.
