The starting point is not too far from Springfield, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The scenic beauty of Massachusetts and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby     but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. North River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Halifax Vermont Gorge to Colrain stretch is the only one. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. Briefly about the general area: For the duration of the summertime at North River highs are ordinarily in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 50's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 20's; after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at North River fall into the 0's.
