The starting location is a reasonable drive from Bennington, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The beautiful scenery of Massachusetts and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Pelham Brook doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Rowe Center to Deerfield River stretch is the only one. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This section of Pelham Brook in Franklin County is 3.25 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class V section.
Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. This is a short paddling
stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly about the general area: Berkshire East has nice slopes and a friendly staff; if the weather is pleasant, you can go for a hike along the Dunbar Brook Trail. Throughout the summer months at Pelham Brook temperatures are generally in the 70's with night lows in the 50's. Daytime highs all
through the winter are in the 20's, and all through the dark hours in the winter at Pelham Brook temperatures plunge to the 10's. Pelham Brook is a good place of normal precipitation; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain, and February on the other hand is the driest.
