The wonderful Massachusetts scenery and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. This stretch of Westfield River is 4 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. If you're coming from Springfield it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Massachusetts are often easier than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. This stretch is
mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here
you'll find a large number of good spots. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people.
Briefly about the general area: Summer at Westfield River arrives with high temperatures in the 80's, and the night is fairly cooler of course, mostly in the 50's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 30's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at
Westfield River. Westfield River is a pretty wet place generally with a large amount of rainfall; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain; the driest of the months is January. The best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of close by Blandford;
going for a hike along the Link Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region. This river is always fun. You need to take a look at Turtle Bend if you're here at Westfield River, and hiking along the Richard Trail is great fun.
