Michigan whitewater, Au Train River

Alger county, M94/Dam to below power house section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III-IV+     1 miles
If you're coming from Escanaba it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This section of Au Train River is 1 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV+ section. The average Michigan whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers in this state are less
demanding. This is a very short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. There are some good stretches to
paddle in this river system, the M94/Dam to below power house stretch is one of them. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling places.
