The wonderful Michigan scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. If you're coming from Marquette it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch of Big Garlic River in Marquette County is 3.3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-V section     of whitewater. This section is quite short so no need to bring snacks. Big Garlic River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Goldmine Road to Cty 550 stretch is the only one. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: For the duration of the summertime at Big Garlic River highs are usually in the 70's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 50's. Highs during the winter are regularly in the 20's while Big Garlic River overnight low temperatures through the winter are in the 0's. From   a rain point of view Big Garlic River is a pretty normal place; during the month of September you get the most rain around here while February is ordinarily the driest month. Little Garlic Falls is an inspiring place to take a look at while you're here, and the Holyoke Trail offers hiking at its best.
