The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Marquette, as you can see on the road map further down. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. There's camping available near Big Garlic River. The natural     beauty of Michigan and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. The Goldmine Road to Cty 550 section is the only paddling section along Big Garlic River. This section is quite short so better bring some good walking shoes. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Michigan is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. Briefly about the general area: Big Garlic River is a good location of normal precipitation; the month with most of the rain is September while February is commonly the driest month. It's always great to visit Little Garlic Falls, and going for a hike on the Holyoke Trail is always a pleasant adventure. Summertime highs at Big Garlic River usually tend to be in the 70's. Summer night lows dip down to the 50's.   High temperatures during the wintertime are normally in the 20's with temperatures at Big Garlic River dipping down into the 0's through winter nights.
