The wonderful Michigan scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of Big Iron River in Ontonagon County is 4.3 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The beauty of the Gogebic Range is a great plus for this river. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the
rivers here more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle,
good for a one day paddling trip. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. The White Pine to Silver City section is the only paddling section along Big Iron River. There's camping available near Big Iron River.

for Big Iron River. That right there is plenty of entertaining things already but it goes on, the Gogebic Range has it all. Don't leave Big Iron River without first paying a visit to Bonanza Falls. The beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Pewabeck Falls; if you like skiing,
