Michigan whitewater - Black River, Gogebic Range, Gogebic County Gogebic county, Cty 513 to Ramsay section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     6.7 miles   This stretch of Black River is 6.7 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The natural beauty of Michigan and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Michigan tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. If you're     a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Cty 513 to Ramsay section is just one of many. The wild scenery of the Gogebic Range is great. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Briefly about the general area: For the period of the days of summer at Black River highs are usually in the 70's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's usually in the 50's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 10's while Black River night low temperatures throughout the wintertime are in the-10's. The skiing   at Blackjack is great.
