The beautiful scenery of Gogebic County and the water flowing gracefully down Black River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. This section of Black River in Michigan is 2.6 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V(V+) section of whitewater. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater
rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch is short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the
river in one stretch. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The Gogebic Range scenery is wonderful. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more.
Briefly about the general area: Be careful coming to the Gogebic Range, you might not ever want to go home again. A short trip to Gorge Falls is always worthwhile. Hiking along the Rainbow Falls Trail is good fun; Sandstone Falls is a scenic site to stop by while you're at Black River.
During the warm days of summer, highs mostly are in the 70's at Black River, and the night is somewhat colder of course, generally in the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 10's; winter nights come with lows in the-10's to Black River.
