This section of Black River is 2.6 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V(V+) section by American Whitewater. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Conglomerate Falls to Lake Superior section is just one of them. This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Not too
many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. Getting a good
workout and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. There's camping available near Black River. The beautiful scenery of Gogebic County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The beautiful Gogebic Range scenery is an added bonus.
Briefly about the general area: It's always good to stop at Sandstone Falls; don't leave Black River without first going for a hike along the Rainbow Falls Trail. Summertime at Black River arrives with high temperatures
in the 70's while nighttime lows are usually in the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 10's while the cold winter nights at Black River are in the-10's. From a rain point of view Black River is a relatively typical spot; of all the months in a year June is the one
with the most rain; the driest of the months is February. This site, the Gogebic Range, has so much outdoors fun stuff. Put some time aside to spend at Gorge Falls while you're here at Black River.
