The scenic beauty of Grand Traverse County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The starting location is a short drive from Traverse City, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. This is an extremely short section so you'd better be prepared     to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. No shortage of good hotels, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The 6 miles South of Traverse City section is the only paddling section along Boardman River. The campgrounds here at Boardman River are pretty good. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. Briefly about the general area: An average amount of rainfall falls at Boardman River; most of the rain falls during September, and February is the month with the least moisture. For the period of the summertime months here at Boardman River, high temperatures generally reach the 80's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's.
