The starting location is a reasonable drive from Marquette, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Michigan are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. This is a pretty short section so better bring some good walking shoes. The CR553 to Highway 41 stretch
of Carp River is 2.3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: You can never get enough of the good skiing at Marquette, and Migisy Bluff is something you shouldn't miss since you're here. You have to stop at Marquette Bay when you're here at Carp River. Summertime highs at Carp River regularly tend to be in
the 70's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. For the period of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 20's; throughout the dark hours in the winter at Carp River temperatures sink to the 0's. A normal amount of rainfall falls here at Carp River; throughout September this area sees the most rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
