I wound up carrying the kayak over my head in 4 inches of water for much of this stretch. The scenic beauty of Michigan and the water flowing gracefully down Chocolay River are reasons     enough to come here and paddle. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are no other stretches to paddle along Chocolay River than the Highway 41 to Cty Road BH stretch. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. This is a somewhat short section so no need to bring snacks. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. Briefly   about the general area: An average amount of rainfall falls at Chocolay River; the wettest month of the year is frequently September, that's the one that rains the most, and February is when it's the driest. At Chocolay River throughout the summer highs are in the 70's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 50's. For the period of the wintertime the highs are usually in the 20's, and after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at Chocolay River fall into the 10's.
