Michigan whitewater - Chocolay River, Marquette County Marquette county, Highway 41 to Cty Road BH section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II(III)     2.2 miles   This stretch is not floatable, at least at the end of May. I wound up carrying the kayak over my head in 4 inches of water for much of this stretch. This stretch of Chocolay River in Michigan is 2.2 miles long and is a class I-II(III) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so better not     forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. If you're coming from Marquette it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This is the only paddling stretch along Chocolay River. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This stretch is short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Briefly about the general area: Chocolay   River is a good place of common rain; the month with most of the rain is September while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Summertime at Chocolay River arrives with high temperatures in the 70's while night lows are typically in the 50's. Through the winter highs are in the 20's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Chocolay River.
