The wonderful Marquette County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The McClure Dam to Forestville Road section of Dead River in Michigan is 6.9 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V+ section. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of
people. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. There are some good hotels near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The
McClure Dam to Forestville Road section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. The campgrounds here at Dead River are pretty good. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Michigan tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners.
