The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Marquette, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful Marquette County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Michigan are often easier than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the
McClure Dam to Forestville Road section is one of them. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend
a night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This section of Dead River in Michigan is 6.9 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V+ section by American Whitewater. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: Throughout the long summer days here at Dead River, high temperatures typically reach the 70's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's usually in the 50's. Daytime highs throughout the winter are in the 20's, and night lows at Dead River during the wintertime
frequently drop into the 0's. From a precipitation point of view Dead River is a relatively common site; most of the rain falls throughout September, and the driest of the months is February.
