This stretch of Dead River is 6.9 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V+ section of whitewater. The starting location is a short drive from Marquette, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The wonderful Marquette County scenery and
the water flowing gracefully down Dead River make the trip here worthwhile. Lodging is available near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. Whether you're whitewater
rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the McClure Dam to Forestville Road section is one of them.
Briefly about the general area: The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Dead River, and all through the night it cools down to the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are typically in the 20's; during the dark hours in the wintertime at Dead River temperatures dip to
the 0's. Dead River gets a common amount of rain; the wettest month of the year is typically September, that's the one that rains the most, and February is when it's the driest.
