The Highway Camp Ground to Boney Falls Basin stretch of Escanaba River is 10 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. The starting point is not too far from Escanaba, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the
river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The natural beauty of Michigan and the water flowing gracefully down Escanaba River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Highway Camp Ground to Boney Falls Basin section is just one of many.
