Michigan whitewater - Ford River, Delta County Delta county, Highway 2 to Highway 35 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     7.75 miles   Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Michigan is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Escanaba, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. There are no other sections to paddle along Ford River than the Highway 2 to Highway 35 section. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. There are campgrounds     quite near the river where you can camp. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The scenic beauty of Delta County and the water flowing gracefully down Ford River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. Briefly about the general area: Ford River gets a normal amount of yearly rain; through August this area sees the most rain, and the driest month of the year is February. For the duration of the warm months at Ford River highs are ordinarily in the 70's while nighttime lows are regularly in the 50's.   During the wintertime highs are typically in the 20's with temperatures at Ford River dipping down into the 0's during winter nights.
