This section of Gratiot River is 9.4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. The wonderful Michigan scenery and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. The Highway 41 to Lower Falls stretch is the only     paddling stretch along Gratiot River. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. Briefly about the general area: Through the months of summer at Gratiot River temperatures are ordinarily in the 70's with nighttime lows in the 50's. High temperatures all through the winter are normally in the 20's, and throughout the dark hours in the wintertime at Gratiot River temperatures drop to the 0's.
