If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The Highway 41 to Lower Falls section of Gratiot River in Keweenaw County is 9.4 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking
or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good rivers for that around here. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're
all set. The nature scenery of Keweenaw County and the water flowing gracefully down Gratiot River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Gratiot River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Highway 41 to Lower Falls section is the only one.
