The Highway 41 to Lower Falls section of Gratiot River in Keweenaw County is 9.4 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. The starting point is not too far from Houghton, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The scenic beauty of Keweenaw County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The campgrounds here at Gratiot River are pretty good. The Highway 41 to Lower Falls section is the only paddling section along Gratiot
River. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an
afternoon. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding.
