The natural beauty of Ontonagon County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Michigan are often easier than in other states, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. The Nonesuch Falls to Highway 107 stretch of Little Iron River is 7.5 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III(IV) section by American Whitewater. There are campgrounds quite
near the river where you can camp. The river winds through the Gogebic Range and you get great scenery. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Nonesuch Falls to Highway 107 section is one of them. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t
have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of spots for that.
Briefly about the general area: Skiing at Porcupine Mountain is one of those things you just should do, and do schedule some time to pop by Union Bay if you have a chance. An average amount of rain falls at Little Iron River; August is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest
of the months is February. If you want a fine time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Gogebic Range. Pewabeck Falls is always fun to check out.
