The beautiful scenery of Marquette County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so better not forget that rivers here are less demanding. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. You     might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling places. This is a short paddling stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. This stretch of Michigamme River is 2.5 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Witbeck Rapids section is one of them. Briefly about the general area: A typical amount of rain falls here at Michigamme River; through June this area sees the most rain; February on the other hand is the driest. For the duration of the summertime months at Michigamme   River temperatures are mostly in the 70's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures plunge down into the 50's. For the duration of the winter this place gets highs in the 20's; after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Michigamme River drop into the-10's.
