Peshekee Grade to Highway 41 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-III 17.9 miles
I have loved the Peshekee for over 63 years, watching rocks appear and disappear with the seasons. It's a special day when kayakers also appear, usually in early spring. I'm afraid the time for good kayaking is over for this year. Sorry! By the way, there are plenty of good motels in Marquette. Says Kay
The scenic beauty of Baraga/Marquette County and the water flowing gracefully down Peshekee River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The average Michigan whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than
those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. The Peshekee Grade to Highway 41 stretch of Peshekee River in Baraga/Marquette County is 17.9 miles long and it is classified as a class I-III section by American Whitewater.
You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. The campgrounds here at Peshekee River are pretty good. The Peshekee Grade to Highway 41 stretch is the only paddling stretch along Peshekee River. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too.
