Peshekee Grade to Highway 41 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-III 17.9 miles
I have loved the Peshekee for over 63 years, watching rocks appear and disappear with the seasons. It's a special day when kayakers also appear, usually in early spring. I'm afraid the time for good kayaking is over for this year. Sorry! By the way, there are plenty of good motels in Marquette. Says Kay
This section of Peshekee River is 17.9 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if
you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling spots. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors
will make you glad you came. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. The Peshekee Grade to Highway 41 stretch is the only paddling stretch along Peshekee River. The natural beauty of Baraga/Marquette County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to
come here and paddle.
