Edgetts to Lincoln Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-II 16 miles
Actually, the best paddling on the Pine River is below Lincoln, and especially in the section from Dobson Bridge to Low Bridge (approximately 21 miles). there are numerous CI rapids from about 20 minutes US from Dobson to about 20 minutes US from Low Bridge. Unfortunately, due to livery traffic the river is kept cleared to excess. Most of the leaning trees and logjams that make padding interesting have been removed so the drunken rental boat paddlers don't get into trouble. Says Jeff
The put-in is not too far from Cadillac, if you're not familiar
with the area there's a road map further down the page. The nature scenery of Lake County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other
places for that. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Michigan you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. This is the only paddling stretch along Pine River. You can pitch
a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The Edgetts to Lincoln Bridge stretch of Pine River is 16 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are
great reasons to come.
