The Silver Road to Skanee Road stretch of Ravine River in Michigan is 6.6 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Michigan are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. Ravine
River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Silver Road to Skanee Road section is the only one. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. The wonderful Baraga County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. If you're coming from Houghton it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down.
Briefly about the general area: A short visit to Slate River Falls is always worthwhile. Throughout the summer at Ravine River highs are ordinarily in the 70's while nighttime lows are regularly
in the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 20's while the cold winter nights at Ravine River are in the 0's. Ravine River is a good site of typical rainfall; through January this area sees the most snow; April on the other hand is the driest.
