The Silver Road to Skanee Road section of Ravine River is 6.6 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The wonderful Baraga County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. This is the only paddling stretch along Ravine River. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Michigan
are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to
get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. The put-in location is a short drive from Houghton, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
Briefly about the general area: Slate River Falls is always fun to check out. The annual rainfall here at Ravine River is about average; most of the snow falls through January while April is the month with
the least amount of precipitation. Through the summertime months, highs regularly are in the 70's at Ravine River. Summer overnight lows drop down to the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Ravine River.
