Michigan whitewater - Rock River, Baraga County Baraga county, Worm Lake outlet to Sturgeon River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III+     5 miles   The scenic beauty of Baraga County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of Rock River in Michigan is 5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III+ section. The put-in is not too far from Houghton, as you can see on the road map further down. There are no other sections to paddle along Rock River than the Worm Lake outlet to Sturgeon River section. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. A bit of exercise and just being out on the     river for a while will make you glad you came. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. Briefly about the general area: Rock River gets a normal amount of yearly rain; August is the month that gets the most rain, and February meanwhile is the driest month. Summertime highs at Rock River mostly tend to be in the 80's, and throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 50's.
