  The starting point is not too far from Houghton, as you can see on the road map further down. The natural beauty of Michigan and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Michigan is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled
    as well. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come.

Briefly about the general area:
From a precipitation point of view Silver River is a rather normal spot; January is the wettest month with most snow while April is ordinarily the driest month. For the period of the summer highs here at Silver River reach the 70's with overnight lows in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's, and night lows in the 0's for Silver River.
