  The starting point is not too far from Houghton, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful Baraga County scenery and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. And of course, there are campgrounds
    nearby. This stretch of Silver River is 4.2 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV+(V) section by American Whitewater. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. The rivers for whitewater rafting
and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding.

Briefly about the general area:
A short tour to Silver Falls is always worthwhile, and time spent at Second Sand Beach is always glorious. Through the warm days of summer at Silver River temperatures are generally in the 70's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 50's. Highs throughout the wintertime are regularly in the 20's while Silver River overnight low temperatures through the winter are
 
in the 0's.
Silver River gets a common amount of precipitation; the month with most of the snow is January; the driest of the months is April.
