The wonderful Baraga County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. The Silver Road to Skanee Road section of Slate River in Michigan is 2.7 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV(V) section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large
number of paddling spots. This is a pretty short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive
a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Silver Road to Skanee Road stretch is one of them. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Houghton, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
