The put-in location is a short drive from Houghton, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
The wonderful Baraga County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Sturgeon River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting
or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. The campgrounds here at Sturgeon River are pretty good. This is an extremely short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. This section of Sturgeon River in Baraga County is 1.3 miles long and is a class IV-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater.
