The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.     The wonderful Baraga County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Sturgeon River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. The campgrounds here at Sturgeon River are pretty good. This is an extremely short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. This section of Sturgeon River in Baraga County is 1.3 miles long and is a class IV-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Briefly about the general area: It's always good to stop by Canyon Falls, and Upper Falls is a fine local attraction. For the duration of the summertime at   Sturgeon River highs are frequently in the 80's; the overnight is fairly cooler of course, generally in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's while the cold winter nights at Sturgeon River are in the 0's.
