Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The natural beauty of Baraga County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. The Plains Road to Sturgeon Gorge Road stretch of Sturgeon River in Michigan is 6.8 miles long     and it is classified as a class I-IV section by American Whitewater. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots.
