The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Michigan are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. If you're coming from Houghton it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. If you're a camper you can camp at one of     the great campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. This section of Sturgeon River in Houghton County is 4 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. Briefly about the general area: A normal amount of precipitation falls here at Sturgeon River; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain, and February   on the other hand is the driest. Sturgeon Falls is always fun to check out; there is a tremendous hiking trail close by called the Pelkie Creek Hunter Walking Trails. At Sturgeon River through the warmest time of the year highs are in the 80's, and the overnight is slightly chillier of course, typically in the 50's. All through the wintertime highs are mostly in the 20's, and overnight lows all through the winter for Sturgeon River tend to be in the 0's.
