The Sturgeon Dam stretch of Sturgeon River in Michigan is 1.7 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. Not too many hotels nearby,     you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Sturgeon River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Sturgeon Dam stretch is the only one. The scenic beauty of Michigan and the playfulness of the water beats anything.
