The Sturgeon Dam stretch of Sturgeon River in Dickinson County is 1.7 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking,     either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Marinette, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This section is quite short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. The beautiful scenery of Michigan and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. Sturgeon River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Sturgeon Dam section is the only one. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. Briefly about the general area: Summer brings highs in the 80's to Sturgeon River while nighttime lows are usually in the 50's. Highs through the winter are frequently in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Sturgeon   River. From a rainfall point of view Sturgeon River is a reasonably normal location; September is the month that gets the most rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
