Michigan whitewater - Sturgeon River, Dickinson County

Dickinson county, Sturgeon Dam section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III-IV     1.7 miles
The average Michigan whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The Sturgeon Dam stretch of Sturgeon River in Michigan is 1.7 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. Not too many hotels nearby,
you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Sturgeon River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Sturgeon Dam stretch is the only one. The scenic beauty of Michigan and the playfulness of the water
beats anything. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
