The wonderful Baraga County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. The Highway 41 to Sturgeon River stretch of Tioga River is 2.2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-IV section. If you're coming from Houghton it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's     a road map further down the page with more info on that. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is a short paddling stretch so no need to bring snacks. The Highway 41 to Sturgeon River section is the only paddling section along Tioga River. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Briefly about the general area: All through the summertime months at Tioga River temperatures are regularly in the 70's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's, and overnight lows at Tioga River during the wintertime frequently descend   into the 0's. From a rain point of view Tioga River is a rather common spot; the month with most of the rain is September, and February is the month with the least moisture.
