The beautiful scenery of Itasca/Koochiching County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. This stretch of Big Fork in Minnesota is 14 miles long and has been rated as a class II(IV) section by American Whitewater. For all you camping     people there are campgrounds nearby. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. Briefly about the general area: A short tour to Muldoon Rapids is always worthwhile; the Cutfoot Sioux Trail offers hiking at its best. Big Fork gets a common amount of annual precipitation; most of the rain falls through June, and February is the month with the least moisture. At Big Fork through the summertime highs are in the 70's. Summer night lows sink down to the 50's.
