Minnesota whitewater, Kettle River

Pine county, Banning State Park to Sandstone section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III(IV)     3 miles
The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Minnesota are often more challenging than in other states, so don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. This section of Kettle River is 3 miles long and is a class II-III(IV) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The wonderful Pine County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Kettle River are in themselves reasons enough to come
here to paddle. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Duluth, as you can see on the road map further down. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This is
a pretty short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. Lodging is available near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The Banning State Park to Sandstone stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. For all you camping people
there are campgrounds nearby.

Briefly about the general area:

Everybody loves Banning State Park, and a spree to Wolf Creek Falls will fill your soul with good feelings. At this river you will never have a bad time. The annual rain here at Kettle River is about average. June is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest month is February.
