Minnesota whitewater, Kettle River

Pine county, below Big Eddy to St. Croix River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II     5 miles
The natural beauty of Pine County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Minnesota is often tougher than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way
this is an area with plenty of spots for that. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book
a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The put-in is not too far from Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the below Big Eddy to St. Croix River stretch is one of them. The below Big Eddy to St. Croix River stretch of Kettle River in Minnesota is 5 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II
section by American Whitewater.

Briefly about the general area:
Take some time to go to Chengwatana State Forest if you're here; Wild River State Park is worth checking out. Kettle River is not far at all from Brook Park, and a visit here wouldn’t be complete without a tour to close by Governor Knowles State Forest. If you come to this river you will have a good time for sure. Good hiking is available along the Minnesota-Wisconsin Boundary State Trail. Kettle River is a good place of common rainfall. The wettest month of the year is mostly June, that's the one that rains the most, and February is when it's the driest.
