  The Highway 25 to Highway 48/77 section of Lower Tamarack River in Pine County is 10.2 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Minnesota is often more difficult than elsewhere, so don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. The put-in location is a short drive from Duluth, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the
    page. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The Highway 25 to Highway 48/77 stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system.
Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you won't find a large number of other spots. The beautiful scenery of Minnesota and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camp stove.

Going to St. Croix State Park near Lower Tamarack River is a good thing to do, and a forest nearby is Saint Croix State Forest. If you're going to Lower Tamarack River from Sandstone, you won't be the only one. Take a hike on the Minnesota-Wisconsin Boundary State Trail; Governor Knowles State Forest is a glorious location to check out on a delightful day. Lower Tamarack River is right by the Markville Snowmobile Trail. The amount of precipitation that falls at Lower Tamarack River is close to the national average. Throughout June this area sees the most rain; the driest month of the year is February.
