If you're coming from Duluth it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The scenic beauty of Scanlon County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The campgrounds here at Midway River are pretty good. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Minnesota are harder than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. This section is long enough to
enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The Highway 61 to Thomson Reservoir section is the only paddling section along Midway River. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. You might have to settle
for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that.
