The starting location is a reasonable drive from St. Cloud, as you can see on the road map further down. The Highway of Park to Mississippi River section of Sauk River in Stearns County is 4.1 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Minnesota and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and     some kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other spots for that. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. No need to look hard for hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. This is the only paddling section along Sauk River. Briefly about the general area: Throughout the summer at Sauk River highs are regularly in the 80's; the nighttime is a bit colder of course, frequently in the 50's. For the duration of the wintertime the highs are ordinarily in the 10's while Sauk River nighttime low temperatures during the winter are in the-10's.
