  If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Minnesota you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. The natural beauty of Aitkin/Kanabec County and the water flowing gracefully down Snake River make the trip here worthwhile. The Silver Star Road to Township Road section of Snake River in Aitkin/Kanabec County is 4 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-III section of whitewater. The campgrounds here at Snake River are pretty good.
    This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance
then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too.

Briefly about the general area:
Snake River gets a common amount of yearly rain; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest of the months is February. Summer at Snake River comes with high temperatures in the 70's. Once the sun is down
 
it plunges down to the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 10's, and overnight lows at Snake River during the wintertime mostly fall into the-10's.
