The Cross Lake to confluence with St. Croix River. section of Snake River in Minnesota is 12 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Minnesota tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. The campgrounds
here at Snake River are pretty good. The natural beauty of Pine County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camping stuff. A bit of
exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling places. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Cross Lake to confluence with St. Croix River. section is one of them.
Briefly about the general area: Through the
warm days of summer here at Snake River, high temperatures usually get into the 80's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 10's, and night lows in the-10's for Snake River. Snake River gets a common amount of rainfall; June is the month that gets the most rain; the driest month of the year is February.
