This is a pretty short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The Superior Hiking Trail to Highway 61 stretch of Split Rock River is 2.9 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. And of course,     there are campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. There are no other sections to paddle along Split Rock River than the Superior Hiking Trail to Highway 61 section. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Minnesota are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more.
