The starting point is not too far from Duluth, as you can see on the road map further down. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. The campgrounds here at St. Louis River are pretty good. This stretch of St. Louis River is 85 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of     St. Louis County and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, so better bring your camping gear along. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Highway 53 to Highway 33 section is one of them. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. Briefly about the general area: Through the long summer days highs here at St. Louis River reach the 70's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 50's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 10's with temperatures at St. Louis River dipping down into the-10's during winter nights. St. Louis River is typically a rather arid place; most of the rain falls all through June, and the driest month of the year is February.
