If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so better not forget that rivers here are less forgiving. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots     of people. The FS Road 424 to Birch Lake section is the only paddling section along Stony River. Briefly about the general area: Summer at Stony River arrives with high temperatures in the 70's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 50's. Highs through the winter are generally in the 10's, and night lows in the-10's for Stony River. The amount of precipitation that falls at Stony River is close to the national average; the month of June is the wettest with most of the rain while February is frequently the driest month.
