Minnesota whitewater - Vermilion River, St. Louis County St. Louis county, Vermilion Dam to Twomile Creek section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     5.5 miles   The Vermilion Dam to Twomile Creek stretch of Vermilion River is 5.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. The scenic beauty of St. Louis County and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here     are not easy. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Vermilion Dam to Twomile Creek section is one of them. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you won't find a large number of other spots. Briefly about the general area: At Vermilion River throughout the warmest time of the year highs are in the 70's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 40's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 10's with temperatures at Vermilion River dipping down into the-20's during winter nights. Wolf Bay is in close proximity   and always good to check out. Vermilion River gets a common amount of precipitation; most of the rain falls through June, and February on the other hand is the driest.
