Minnesota whitewater - Vermilion River, St. Louis County St. Louis county, Vermilion Dam to Twomile Creek section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     5.5 miles   The Vermilion Dam to Twomile Creek stretch of Vermilion River in St. Louis County is 5.5 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The wonderful Minnesota scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number     of paddling rivers. The average Minnesota whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Vermilion Dam to Twomile Creek section is one of them. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Briefly about the general area: During the days of summer here at Vermilion River, high temperatures usually reach the 70's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's ordinarily in the 40's. For the duration of the winter this place gets highs in the 10's, and nighttime lows at Vermilion River throughout the winter frequently descend into the-20's. Vermilion River is a good spot   of normal rainfall; June is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month of the year is February. Wolf Bay is not far from Vermilion River at all.
