The put-in location is a short drive from Red Wing, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The beautiful scenery of Dakota County and the water flowing gracefully down Vermilion River make the trip here worthwhile. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep     in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. This is the only paddling stretch along Vermilion River. This is a very short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
