The starting location is a reasonable drive from Hattiesburg, please print out a copy of the road     map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This stretch of Okatoma Creek in Covington County is 19 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. Okatoma Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the MS Highway 590 to Lux stretch is the only one. The campgrounds here at Okatoma Creek are pretty good. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Briefly about the general area: The high level of rain makes Okatoma Creek a pretty wet spot; throughout March this area sees the most rain, and October on the other hand is the driest. For the period of the warm days of summer at Okatoma Creek   temperatures are regularly in the 90's while night lows are ordinarily in the 60's. Highs through the winter are commonly in the 50's, and night lows at Okatoma Creek throughout the wintertime usually sink into the 30's.
