Mississippi whitewater - Okatoma Creek, Covington County Covington county, MS Highway 590 to Lux section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     19 miles   The put-in is not too far from Hattiesburg, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This stretch of Okatoma Creek is 19 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The MS Highway 590 to Lux section is the only paddling section along Okatoma Creek. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your sleeping     bag. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The wonderful Mississippi scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. Briefly about the general area: All through the days of summer at Okatoma Creek highs are usually in the 90's while nighttime lows are mostly in the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 50's, and winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Okatoma Creek.
